As with all of his films, its quiet beauty resonates immediately, existing somewhere between poetic abstraction and slice-of-life simplicity, with the presence of a vague political context. Utilizing the LomoKino’s limited shot lengths to his advantage, Apichatpong imbues Ashes with a mesmerizing rhythm.
